McAdam is located only forty minutes away from St. Stephen, and fifty minutes
from Fredericton, the capital city of New Brunswick. There you'll find one of
the finest art galleries east of Montreal, live theatre, fine dining, excellent
shopping, and the not-to-be missed Boyce Market, the ever popular and well
attended Saturday gathering for residents from miles around.
McAdam is also just seven minutes from the American border at Maine. Residents
have access to a wide range of services and shops within a short driving
distance.
Recreation
In the summer McAdam offers its 1,700 residents tennis and basketball courts,
ball diamonds, rollerblading, and walking and hiking trails. For golf
enthusiasts, courses are available in both Fredericton and St. Andrews. The
McAdam Lake Campground offers camping and canoe rentals for a peaceful glide
along the lake. The Spednic Lake Campground and the Palfrey Lake Lodge are both
a short twenty-minute drive away. In winter the NB Trail through McAdam is
available for great snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and hiking. There are
outdoor skating rinks, while downhill skiing is available just outside
Fredericton at Crabbe Mountain.
Employment
Westroc Industries (gyproc plant), Seleno (plastic pipe manufacturer),
Glassville Logging, and Georgia Pacific (forestry) are the major employers. The
McAdam Health Centre, schools, banks, nursing home complex and local business
are also major employers. Some people who live in McAdam choose to travel to
work in Fredericton. The fifty-minute drive offers them a larger, more diverse
job market.
