In addition to providing emergency and primary care to the residents of Fredericton and surrounding areas, the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital offers a wide range of secondary and elevated secondary services. These include medical specialties (rheumatology, oncology, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, and psychiatry), surgical services (orthopaedics, vascular, thoracic, plastics, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology, ophthalmology), maternal/child (obstetrics, neonatology, pediatrics) and geriatric/restorative care. Tertiary neonatal care and dialysis are services available.

The regional hospital is recognized as a centre of expertise for reconstructive and restorative medicine and a leading plastic surgery centre. It is equipped with the latest diagnostic technology including MRI. Full ranges of diagnostic and therapeutic services are available.

This centre provides undergraduate education experience for approximately twenty health disciplines. The region is a certified partner of the Dalhousie University Family Medicine program, a partner with the University of New Brunswick nursing program, and offers the only Clinical Pastoral Education internship program and certification in New Brunswick.

The Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital has approximately 314 beds, and is supported by 58 family physicians and 88 specialists and over 2,000 nurses, health care professionals and support staff.

Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph serves the needs of the Village of Perth-Andover and its surrounding communities. While the present building dates back to 1954, there have been extensive renovations and a number of building programs over the years.

In addition to primary care, secondary care and ambulatory care services, Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph offers a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including a breast cancer screening program, maternal and child services, general surgical services and a 24-hour emergency room. The hospital has 34 inpatient beds including a 4-bed cardiac care unit, all supported by 7 family physicians, 2 surgeons, as well as visiting specialists, nurses, professional and support staff.

Serving the residents of the Town of Oromocto and surrounding communities, the Oromocto Public Hospital provides primary care and secondary care and inpatient and outpatient services including an emergency department operating from 8 a.m. 10 p.m. The hospital has a very active day surgery and breast cancer screening centres, and a close observation unit. Fifteen family physicians, a radiologist, visiting surgeons, as well as nurses, professional and support staff work at this facility.

Surgeons from the regional hospital regularly work at Oromocto Public Hospital in day surgery, leaving more complex inpatient surgery to be performed at the regional hospital in Fredericton. Between them, the two facilities offer twelve operating theatres.

The hospital has a total of 45 beds, 17 of which are attached to the William R. Duffie Unit, part of the healthy aging and restorative program of River Valley Health.

The Queens North Community Health Centre provides a range of primary care. There is a walk-in service from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Its interdisciplinary team includes family physicians, a nurse practitioner, LPNs, registered nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, a social worker, dietitian, lab, x-ray and support staff as well as consulting physicians. Public Health and Community Mental Health offices are also located at the facility. Secondary care services, including surgery, are provided at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.

The Queens North Community Health Centre is attached to and shares resources with the W.G. Bishop Nursing Home.

Tobique Valley Hospital is a community health centre located at the northern tip of the region. It serves the community health needs of the residents of Plaster Rock and surrounding communities.

The facility offers primary care practice, clinical services, as well as a walk-in clinic. Services are offered by 4 family physicians, a nurse practitioner, community developer as well as professional and support staff.

The Upper River Valley Hospital opened on November 18, 2007 in Waterville, New Brunswick.

The new Upper River Valley Hospital is a modern, state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the needs of patients and staff. It is one of New Brunswick’s new “green” buildings designed and built with energy efficiency and the environment in mind.

The new hospital services the Upper River Valley with both primary and secondary care, inpatient and outpatient services, including an emergency department which provides 24-hour care.


The Upper River Valley Hospital
is a 70-bed hospital with beds designated for obstetrics, surgery and medical patients, including palliative and pediatrics.  Surgical services are provided from three operating rooms.  Two of the operating rooms are fully-integrated surgical suites.

The hospital offers echocardiography, bone densitometry renal dialysis, expanded mental health and rehabilitation services and increased access to visiting specialists. An MRI is operated in partnership with the Regional Health Authority 4 in Edmundston.

Focused on health and wellness of all residents in the area, the Harvey Health Centre offers primary care, outpatient and 24-hour emergency services. A physician is on call by telephone after office hours. Four 48-hour observation beds support that mandate. Residents have access to a variety of outreach services based in the complex as well.

The most western located facility in the region, just seven miles from the US border, the McAdam Health Centre began operating as a health centre pilot project for the region and the province in 1993. The centre focuses on essential health care, health promotion and disease with shared nursing practice, and restorative and support services. Equipped with short-stay observation beds, the centre offers 24-hour emergency service and palliative care. A physician is on call by telephone after office hours.

The centre is open 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. An interdisciplinary team including family physicians and a nurse practitioner, as well as consulting physicians, nurses, professional and support staff work in this facility. Secondary care services, including surgery, are provided at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.

The Fredericton Junction Health Centre was designed to meet the primary health needs of the village and surrounding communities. The centre offers a variety of outreach programs to communities in the region. The adjoining building houses the 36-bed nursing home (White Rapids Manor), which is not under the jurisdiction of the River Valley Health.

This Centre provides primary care services through an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, a dietitian, and support staff. The health centre staff works closely with our partners to meet the health needs of the community. The centre is connected to a 30-bed nursing home, which is not under the jurisdiction of the River Valley Health.
