Volunteering weaves "support" throughout our communities. In River Valley Health, volunteers of all ages are models to be recognized. Volunteers across the region donate hours of time serving on boards, Foundations and Auxiliaries, assisting patients and staff, visiting, staffing information desks, raising much needed funds and more.
The greatest strength behind the greatest organizations.
We know from experience that a volunteer force that is ready, willing and able can make an incredible impact on the clients of health care. The majority of our volunteer force are senior adults, however, many are young adults and university students.
Today, volunteers look for challenges. To meet these challenges, they offer their work and life experiences which allow them to become a competent team member.
Youth Volunteers:
Students from grades 7-12 are encouraged to participate in our Student Program. Students are required to commit to a minimum of one semester, which includes one two-hour shift per week. Students have found that an opportunity to volunteer in a health care facility can broaden their career choices.
What Volunteers Do
The following is an example of volunteer activity throughout our health care facilities:
Offer greetings and directions to health care visitors
Visit with patients and families
Serve as board members in auxiliaries, foundations
Provide comfort and recreation to both the young and the elderly
Offer pastoral care assistance to patients and families
Serve as members of our River Valley Health Board of Directors.
