Addiction Services
Addiction Services, located at the Victoria Health Centre in Fredericton,
provides a broad array of community-based services ranging from education and
prevention to treatment and counseling for individuals, family members and the
community coping with alcohol and drug dependencies and gambling addictions.
Treatment/Detoxification:
A 16-bed in-patient facility provides expert medical care and
support for patients undergoing withdrawal from alcohol and/or drugs, crisis
intervention, or interruption of gambling activity, and assisting patients in
making a long term recovery from their addiction.
Rehabilitation:
River Valley Health professional staff provide
selected patients with access to long-term residential
programs located in Saint John and Campbellton.
Outpatient Services:
Social Workers provide assessments and counseling to
individuals and families experiencing difficulties with alcohol,
drugs and gambling. In addition to identifying factors that have
contributed to the addiction, professional counselors assist the
patient/client in developing a personal plan of recovery.
Youth Outpatient Services:Social workers with
specialized experience in dealing with adolescents provide a
range of individual and group services to support youth and
their families.
Health Promotion and Community Services:
Health promotion activities in the region include continuing
education for other professionals and community groups and
the mobilization of community resources.
Referral:
Clients requiring access to Addiction Services can
self-refer or be referred by their doctor, guidance
counselor, probation officer, employer, the clergy or a
family member.
