in Pastoral Care, Spiritual Care and Ministry
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Regional Hospital is a nationally approved program with the
Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (C.A.P.P.E)
All programs in Supervised Pastoral Education are conducted
according to C.A.P.P.E standards and are recognized for academic
credit by the theological colleges associated with The Institute
of Pastoral Training, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and by many others
across Canada and the United States.
Basic Programs and Advanced Programs
Basic programs are open to persons who are interested and
who have experience and training to benefit from such a program.
Advanced programs are open to those who have already completed
at least two basic units, who are engaged in pastoral ministry,
are members of C.A.P.P.E and have been authorized to proceed
to Advanced Standing by the C.A.P.P.E Regional Admitting Committee.
Clinical Pastoral Education units provide 400 hours of direct
experience and training in pastoral care and chaplaincy. CPE
Units at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital may be
2 days per week for 30 weeks, or 5 days per week for 12 weeks.
Chaplain Interns develop their skills for attending the spiritual
and religious needs of patients, families and staff, while
addressing personal and pastoral issues. Part of each day
is spent working ecumenically in nursing units and other times
in group activities and individual supervision.
